While there are often thriving kids audiences for Hollywood studio films in our cinemas, there are benefits for offering the same wide breadth we offer to adults to younger patrons. How can we encourage parents and children to widen their palate, to make the ‘risky’ a risk worth taking? Featuring guest speakers: Alicia McGivern, Susie Evans, and Dáire Carson.

REVERIE CINECLUB presents THE TALE OF TSAR SALTAN (1967). Surviving the storm-tossed voyage, a mother and her now magically-adult son land on a remote island where he falls in love with a Swan Princess, and longs for reunion with his estranged father, Tsar Saltan. Based on a famous fairy tale in verse by Alexander Pushkin, Aleksandr Ptushko's 1967 film is a ravishingly beautiful fantasy adventure.

This dynamic hands-on workshop led by artist Lydia Beilby will introduce young participants to techniques of drawing and painting directly onto celluloid in order to create a mesmerising piece of collectively-created moving image, generated without the need for a camera!

REVERIE CINECLUB presents THE ADVENTURES OF PRINCE ACHMED (1926). A real piece of cinema history, Lotte Reiniger's 1926 film is the oldest surviving full-length animation in the world. The story, taken from the Arabian Nights, follows young Prince Achmed - tricked by an evil sorcerer, he must travel through distant magical lands on a quest to rescue his beloved princess.

REVERIE CINECLUB presents THE CASSANDRA CAT (1963). A travelling circus and its magical feline mascot arrive in a provincial Czech town, and expose the virtues, vices and desires of its unruly inhabitants. Part modern fairy tale, part colourful political metaphor, Vojtěch Jasný's 1963 film is a unique, glorious comic drama.
